A Strategic Pivot Toward Party Unity

The Tanimu Turaki led National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has officially confirmed the commencement of a comprehensive reconciliation process designed to end the party's protracted leadership crisis. In a statement released on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, Turaki revealed that the party is prioritizing internal peace to provide a stable platform for aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections. According to the NWC, the move is a direct response to a recent advisory from the Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan, which urged all embattled parties to seek a political solution to their disputes.

The Role Of The High-Powered Reconciliation Committee

The reconciliation efforts are being spearheaded by a committee constituted by the Board of Trustees, under the leadership of Senator Adolphus Wabara. This body has been tasked with interfacing directly with the estranged faction loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike. According to Turaki, the NWC has already demonstrated its commitment to the process by postponing scheduled National Executive Committee and National Caucus meetings. This postponement was intended as a gesture of good faith to allow the committee sufficient room to negotiate without the pressure of immediate administrative deadlines.

De-escalating The War Of Words

A central component of the current peace effort is the cessation of "combative and derogatory" communication. Turaki confirmed that his faction has successfully stopped issuing aggressive public statements and called on the opposing group to reciprocate this gesture. According to the factional chairman, the continued "weaponization of hurtful rhetoric" by certain elements threatens to jeopardize the delicate progress made by the reconciliation committee. He emphasized that both sides must act in the overall interest of party members who rely on the PDP platform for their elective ambitions.
