High Speed Detection Triggers Multi State Law Enforcement Response
A routine patrol on Interstate 95 turned into a high stakes pursuit during the early hours of Monday morning. At approximately 12:30 a.m., a New Hampshire state trooper observed a 2014 Chrysler 300 traveling at 118 mph through Greenland. When the officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the operator reportedly refused to pull over, initiating a pursuit that spanned across state lines. Investigators later discovered that the driver had successfully evaded Maine State Police just minutes before entering New Hampshire jurisdiction.
Tactical Pursuit Shifts from Interstate to Local Highway Network
The suspect, later identified as Jason A. Schalebaum, navigated the vehicle onto Route 101 at the Hampton toll plaza in an attempt to distance himself from pursuing units. The chase continued westbound at high speeds, passing through the towns of Hampton and Exeter. Local law enforcement from several surrounding municipalities joined state troopers in monitoring the vehicle's progress as it transitioned from the primary interstate to the regional highway system, creating a significant risk to public safety during the midnight hours.
Collision at Stratham Overpass Ends Dangerous Vehicle Flight
The pursuit reached its conclusion when Schalebaum attempted to exit the highway at Exit 11 in Stratham. According to state police reports, the 18 year old failed to navigate his vehicle around a traffic island at the base of the offramp. The Chrysler 300 careened off the roadway and struck a retaining wall located at the base of a highway overpass. The impact caused significant damage to the vehicle, though the driver managed to survive the high speed collision with what were described as minor injuries.
