Unauthorized Residency Discovery
The Madisonville Police Department reported that officers were conducting a routine patrol of the Shedtech storage property when they heard voices originating from a blue shed at the rear of the lot. Upon further investigation, officers observed a man and a woman, later identified as Rick Romig and Christine Williams, exiting the unit. Romig reportedly admitted to authorities that the pair had been utilizing the storage shed as a residence for the past several nights.
Littering and Alcohol Charges
During the encounter, officers noted a significant amount of personal property belonging to the suspects inside the unit. Additionally, the surrounding area and a swampy section of land behind the shed were littered with various items of trash. Romig allegedly admitted to consuming vodka with Williams and discarding the bottle into the adjacent wetland. Officers at the scene noted the smell of alcohol on both individuals' breath, leading to further citations.
Legal Action and Booking
Rick Romig and Christine Williams were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Hopkins County Jail. Both individuals have been officially charged with criminal trespassing, criminal littering, and public intoxication. The Madisonville Police Department reminds the public that storage facilities are not zoned for residency and that unauthorized occupancy poses significant safety and sanitation risks.
