A person has died following a serious crash on Foxton Shannon Road. Downed power lines ignited a nearby house fire in the Manawatū district.

The crash occurred on Foxton Shannon Road, specifically between Himatangi Block Road and Poplar South Road. According to initial police reports, a vehicle left the road and struck a power pole with significant force. The impact killed the occupant of the vehicle and caused the live power lines to fall.

The downed high-voltage lines landed on a nearby dwelling, sparking a fire that quickly spread through the structure. Fire and Emergency New Zealand (FENZ) arrived on the scene and successfully extinguished the blaze.
