A Recurring Tragedy on a High Volume Corridor
The notorious Otedola Bridge axis in Lagos has claimed the life of another motorcycle operator in a collision involving a heavy duty vehicle. The fatal accident occurred less than 24 hours after a similar tragedy was reported along the same stretch of road, raising urgent concerns about the safety of the corridor. According to a statement from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the crash took place on the Ogudu–Otedola Toll Gate stretch as the vehicles were moving inward toward the Secretariat.
Emergency Response and Scene Management
A heavy duty Volvo truck reportedly struck the motorcycle, resulting in the immediate death of the dispatch rider. LASTMA officials who were on routine patrol in the area arrived at the scene promptly to secure the perimeter and prevent secondary accidents. Given the high volume of traffic typically found at this bottleneck, the officers cordoned off the affected lane to allow emergency responders to perform their duties without further endangering road users.
Inter Agency Coordination for Evacuation
The recovery operation involved multiple security and safety agencies working in tandem to clear the arterial road. Personnel from the Alausa Police Division provided necessary security coverage while operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps took custody of the deceased’s remains for transport to the mortuary. The damaged motorcycle and the Volvo truck were eventually removed from the roadway with the assistance of a towing vehicle, allowing for the eventual restoration of the traffic flow.
