Midnight Collision Triggers Emergency Response
A significant road traffic accident involving two heavy duty trucks occurred late Monday night near Foursquare Camp along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps, the incident took place at approximately 10:17 p.m. and involved a black CNHTC HOWO truck carrying iron rods and an unregistered white Sinotruck. The impact of the collision resulted in five injuries out of the seven adult males present at the scene, though officials have confirmed that there were no fatalities.
Complex Rescue Efforts for Trapped Victims
The recovery process for the victims was divided into two phases due to the severity of the wreckage. Three individuals were immediately evacuated on Monday night and transported to Victory Hospital in Ogere for medical treatment. However, two other passengers remained trapped within the crushed cabins of the vehicles until Tuesday morning. These victims were successfully extricated by rescue teams after several hours of intensive labor and have since been moved to the same medical facility for urgent care.
Technical Challenges in Clearing the Obstruction
Odunsi Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer for the FRSC Ogun Sector Command, explained that the two large vehicles became wedged together during the impact. The physical entanglement of the trucks has necessitated the use of heavy duty cranes for separation and removal. Because the trucks are blocking the primary thoroughfare, the Ibadan to Lagos lane has been temporarily closed to provide the recovery teams with the necessary space to operate safely and effectively.
