Midnight Collision Claims Multiple Lives in Ijebu East

A devastating road traffic accident has claimed the lives of four people during the late hours of Monday on a prominent stretch of the Ijebu East axis in Ogun State. The incident, which occurred at approximately 11:16 p.m., involved a white Toyota Hiace passenger bus and a blue MAN Diesel truck belonging to the construction firm Julius Berger. According to preliminary reports from the scene, the passenger vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it encountered the truck, which had become a stationary hazard on the dark highway. The force of the impact was so severe that all occupants of the bus sustained fatal injuries instantly.

Mechanical Failure Leaves Heavy Vehicle Stranded

Investigations into the cause of the tragedy revealed a critical mechanical failure involving a third vehicle. The MAN Diesel truck was reportedly in the process of being towed when the towing chain snapped, leaving the heavy vehicle immobilized in the middle of the thoroughfare. Following the equipment failure, the operator of the towing vehicle allegedly fled the scene, abandoning the stationary truck without placing adequate warning signals for oncoming traffic. This sequence of events created a lethal obstacle for the approaching Toyota Hiace, which was unable to decelerate in time to avoid the catastrophic rear, end collision.

Emergency Response and Fatal Injury Reports

Odunsi Afolabi, the Public Relations Officer for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ogun Sector Command, confirmed the details of the crash and the subsequent emergency response. Afolabi stated that the FRSC rescue team managed to arrive at the site within eight minutes of receiving the alert, though they found no survivors among the wreckage. The victims consisted of two adult males and two adult females. All four bodies have since been evacuated from the site and deposited at the State Hospital Mortuary in Ijebu Ode, pending identification by their respective families and further medical examination.
