Fatal High Speed Collision Near Christopher University
A severe lone vehicle crash resulted in the deaths of four individuals late Sunday night along the busy Lagos-Ibadan expressway. The accident occurred at approximately 9:18 PM directly in front of Christopher University, involving a white Toyota Hiace bus with the registration number AGL789YL. According to the Ogun Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps, the vehicle was transporting thirteen passengers at the time of the incident. Rescue teams from the Mowe unit command were reportedly on the scene within two minutes of the alert to begin emergency operations and manage the wreckage.
Casualty Breakdown and Emergency Medical Response
The passenger manifest for the ill-fated journey consisted of eleven adult males and two adult females. Of the thirteen people involved, four adult males were confirmed dead at the scene. Eight other passengers, including seven males and one female, sustained various degrees of injury during the impact. Emergency responders successfully evacuated the injured victims to Famobis Hospital to receive urgent medical care. Meanwhile, the remains of the four deceased men were transported to the Idera Morgue for preservation and subsequent identification by their respective families.
Primary Factors Contributing to the Crash
Preliminary investigations conducted by the FRSC have pinpointed speed violation and a sudden tire burst as the dual causes of the tragedy. Spokesperson Odunsi Afolabi noted that the high velocity of the vehicle exacerbated the situation when the tire failed, making it impossible for the driver to maintain a steady path. The combination of mechanical failure and excessive speed is a recurring factor in fatal accidents along this specific corridor. Authorities emphasized that the driver lost total control of the Toyota Hiace before it finally came to a halt on the expressway.
