Modernizing Anatomy Instruction in Kwara State

In a significant move to modernize its healthcare curriculum, Thomas Adewumi University (TAU), Oko-Irese, has integrated high-tech digital solutions into its medical training program. Vice Chancellor Prof. Fransisca Oladipo announced the acquisition of a state-of-the-art virtual dissection table, positioning the institution among a select group of Nigerian universities transitioning away from exclusive reliance on traditional teaching methods. The investment is part of a broader strategy to align the university’s medical faculty with international educational standards.

Technical Specifications of the Asclepius System

The university has taken delivery of the Asclepius TBK 84 EA Virtual Dissection Table, a high-performance 84-inch interactive system. Developed by the German medical solutions firm 3B Scientific, the table provides a life-size 3D visualization of the human body. The system is designed to facilitate deep exploration of anatomy, radiology, and surgical planning, offering students a level of detail and interactivity that traditional cadaveric studies cannot provide.

Advanced Diagnostic and Surgical Simulation

According to Prof. Oladipo, the technology offers capabilities beyond simple anatomy. The platform allows for the direct conversion of CT and MRI scans into interactive 3D models, providing students with clearer insights into complex pathological conditions. Furthermore, the system enables students to simulate delicate surgical procedures and conduct virtual dissections across specialized fields such as histopathology and endoscopy. This hands-on digital experience is intended to sharpen diagnostic skills before students enter clinical rotations.
