Midnight Invasion of the Olayinka Palace
Terrorists launched a violent midnight raid on the Olayinka community within the Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, resulting in the abduction of a prominent traditional ruler. Oba Salman Olatunji Aweda was taken from his residence around midnight on Saturday by a group of more than 10 armed assailants. According to witnesses, the attackers forcibly entered the monarch’s home, seizing him and one other occupant before retreating into the surrounding bush.
Extortionate Ransom Demands Surface
Following the abduction, the kidnappers established contact to demand an exorbitant ransom of N400 million for the safe return of the monarch. This high valuation reflects a disturbing trend in the region where traditional leaders are increasingly targeted for significant financial gain. The demand has placed an immense burden on the local community and the family of the victims, who remain in the custody of the armed group while negotiations and security efforts continue.
Local Government and Security Response
In the wake of the incident, the Chairman of the Ifelodun Local Government Area, Abdulrasheed Femi Yusuf, conducted a sympathy visit to the Olayinka community. During his address to the residents, Yusuf characterized the abduction as a deeply concerning event and assured the public that decisive actions are being taken. He emphasized that the local government is working in close collaboration with various security agencies to track the assailants and secure the release of the monarch.
