Luring the Victim to a Fatal Trap

The Delta State Police Command has released a video confession from Alex Kehinde, a primary suspect in the brutal killing of an elderly man who had hired him for building renovations. According to the suspect, the crime was initiated on February 3, 2026, after he and a fugitive accomplice lured the octogenarian to the upper floor of his own property. They used the pretext of a plumbing malfunction to isolate the man, subsequently forcing him to the ground in a premeditated kidnapping attempt that turned fatal within minutes.

A Suffocation Murder Driven by Financial Desperation

During the interrogation, Kehinde explained in detail how the situation escalated when the victim began to resist and cry out for help. Fearing that neighbors or passersby might intervene, the suspects used a piece of industrial foam from the construction site to cover the man’s mouth and nose. The suspect admitted that they held the foam in place until the elderly man stopped struggling and succumbed to suffocation. The motivation behind the attack, according to Kehinde, was a lack of funds and the need to secure a large sum of money quickly.

Theft and Extortion Following the Killing

The suspects demonstrated a calculated approach to the crime by immediately disposing of the victim’s personal property after his death. SP Bright Edafe, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the pair stole the man’s motorcycle and mobile phone, selling the latter at the Ogbe-Ogonogo market for N30,000. To maximize their financial gain, they retained the victim's SIM card and contacted the deceased’s son, claiming that his father was being held captive and demanding a significant ransom payment despite knowing the victim was already dead.
