Reaffirming The National Leadership Mandate
The Social Democratic Party has moved to settle growing internal confusion by reaffirming the status of its top executive office. During a press briefing in Abuja, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Rufus Aiyenigba, stated unequivocally that Dr. Sadiq Gombe remains the legitimate National Chairman. This clarification was released to counter what the party describes as a deliberate campaign of misinformation regarding the current hierarchy, ensuring that both the public and political stakeholders recognize the authorized leadership as the party prepares for future electoral cycles.
Expulsion Of Former Chairman Remains Final
According to the party's official records, former National Chairman Shehu Gabam is no longer a member of the organization. Aiyenigba detailed a timeline of disciplinary actions, noting that Gabam was initially suspended in June 2025 before being formally expelled in October of the same year. The party leadership emphasized that this expulsion was ratified by the National Executive Committee on March 9, 2026, during a session that was reportedly monitored by the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure procedural compliance.
Allegations Of Financial Malfeasance And Legal Proceedings
The grounds for Gabam’s removal are rooted in serious allegations of financial misconduct and gross abuse of office. The party disclosed that Gabam was found guilty of financial misappropriation and malfeasance, leading to a formal report being filed with the police. Currently, the former official is facing criminal proceedings related to these charges. The SDP leadership stated it would not join issues with an expelled member, particularly one who is actively involved in litigation concerning the alleged theft of party funds.
