Internal Friction Within the Kwara Ruling Party

A group of All Progressives Congress stakeholders has taken the dramatic step of petitioning the Presidency regarding an escalating internal crisis in Kwara State. The petition, dated April 22, 2026, was formally submitted at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja by representatives including Hon. Olosasa Toyin, Comrade Onimasa Hazmat Ganeey, and Alhaji Abdulraheem Alabi. The group contends that the actions of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq are currently de,marketing the party through a series of unpopular administrative policies and a perceived lack of inclusive leadership.

Allegations of Succession Imposition

The core of the stakeholders' grievance centers on the 2027 gubernatorial race and the governor’s alleged plans for the party's ticket. The petitioners claim that Governor AbdulRazaq is strategically plotting to impose the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Danladi Yakubu, as the party's candidate for the next election. They warned that such a move, if conducted without broad party consensus, could trigger a severe internal crisis that might fracture the party’s existing structure across the state.

Security Concerns and Political Alienation

Beyond succession politics, the stakeholders accused the governor of alienating both party members and the general public through poor management of security challenges and internal dissent. The petition alleges that efforts by established party leaders to contribute to the state’s development have been consistently frustrated. Furthermore, the group claimed that those who voice opposition to the current administration's direction are being targeted through the use of security agencies and targeted legal actions, creating a climate of political intimidation.
