Sanitation Worker Alerts Authorities After Finding Fleeing Suspect in Residential Bin
A Huber Heights sanitation worker got the surprise of his life after finding a runaway suspect hiding inside a garbage bin during a routine pickup on Monday.

The Initial Traffic Stop and Foot Pursuit
The incident began when an officer from the Huber Heights Police Department initiated a standard traffic stop. Although the driver initially brought the vehicle to a halt he quickly abandoned the car and fled on foot into the surrounding residential neighborhood. Officers established a perimeter and began a systematic search of the area but they had lost visual contact with the individual prior to the sanitation worker's intervention. The suspect chose the residential trash can as a temporary hiding spot to evade the established police cordon.
Dash Cam Records Unusual Discovery
Video evidence from the police vehicle captured the exact moment the sanitation worker opened the lid of the garbage can and jumped back in surprise. The worker is seen pointing emphatically at the container as a police cruiser moves closer for inspection. As the officers approached the man nicknamed Oscar the Grouch by the department poked his head out of the bin before jumping out to continue his escape attempt. The suspect was seen running down the street with such haste that he reportedly left his shoes behind during the chase.
Apprehension and Officer Response
Despite the suspect's efforts to flee a second time he was eventually apprehended by an officer identified as Officer Perez. The Huber Heights Police Department praised the officer for his swift response and athletic ability in securing the runaway individual. Authorities confirmed that the suspect was taken into custody without any injuries occurring to the officers the sanitation worker or the suspect himself. The department noted that the sanitation worker appeared at just the right place and time to assist in resolving the search.
