Rejecting the Factional Narrative

The internal power struggle within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) took a sharp rhetorical turn on Thursday as former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu dismissed the legitimacy of the faction led by Nafiu Bala. Speaking on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief, Nwosu argued that Bala does not represent a genuine division within the party but is instead an individual operative. According to Nwosu, the "factional" label is a misnomer, as he believes Bala is being utilized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to destabilize the ADC’s organizational structure.

Accusations of Political Monopolization

Nwosu utilized the platform to launch a direct critique of President Bola Tinubu’s governance style, drawing parallels between current federal tactics and the political history of Lagos State. He claimed that the President is attempting to "pocket" Nigerian politics by weakening opposition parties and forcibly aligning them with the APC. Nwosu asserted that the President’s strategy involves overriding Nigeria’s political diversity, much like the "Jagaban" persona dominated the sophisticated landscape of Lagos, a move he says patriotic Nigerians are now resisting.

The ADC as a Vehicle for Resistance

Despite the ongoing leadership disputes, Nwosu maintained that the ADC remains the "only party that can save this country" and place it on a global trajectory of development. He described the party’s "DNA" as being uniquely suited to provide a vehicle for Nigerians to resist what he termed a "monstrous force" in the current administration. Nwosu acknowledged that the struggle for political space would not be easy, given the President’s reputation for "boxing his way through" political challenges, but insisted the ADC would not yield.
