Allegations of State-Led Political Interference

Mukhtar Adnan, a chieftain of the African Democratic Congress and former aspirant for the Kano State House of Assembly, has alleged that the All Progressives Congress and the federal government are actively working to destabilize opposition parties. In an interview with Daily Post, Adnan described the current leadership crisis within the ADC as a calculated attempt by the ruling administration to undermine democratic principles. He suggested that these external interventions are specifically designed to fragment the political landscape well before the 2027 general elections.

Disputed Leadership Transition and INEC Portals

The crisis within the ADC reportedly intensified following the dissolution of the National Working Committee and the emergence of David Mark as chairman and Rauf Aregbesola as secretary. Adnan explained that while this transition was formalized at the Yar’Adua Centre and followed due process, the situation was upended by a member of the dissolved committee. Despite a resignation letter being acknowledged by the Independent National Electoral Commission, the individual later rescinded his claim and secured a court order to maintain the status quo, leading to the removal of Mark and Aregbesola from the commission's official portal.

Strategic Weakening of Electoral Rivals

Adnan argued that the confusion surrounding the party's leadership is a suspicious development driven by the fears of the current administration. He alleged that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is seeking a weakened opposition to ensure a less competitive path to victory in 2027. According to Adnan, the use of administrative and judicial maneuvers to disrupt the internal affairs of the ADC constitutes an abuse of democracy that prioritizes the interests of the ruling party over national political stability.
