Political Analyst Predicts Administrative Interference in Election Preparations

Sam Amadi, the former head of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, has alleged that the presidency is actively seeking ways to prevent Peter Obi from appearing on the 2027 presidential ballot. Amadi suggests that the current government perceives the former Anambra State Governor as a significant threat to its continuity. According to Amadi, this apprehension stems from a combination of the country’s current difficult state and the president's perceived inability to engage in another demanding national campaign circuit.

Legal Maneuvers Target the African Democratic Congress Platform

There are emerging concerns that the African Democratic Congress, the party Peter Obi is reportedly eyeing for his 2027 bid, could face forced proscription. Amadi claimed to have received intelligence suggesting that the government intends to utilize the Independent National Electoral Commission and the court system to deregister or ban the party. He noted that a source familiar with electoral operations warned of these legal hurdles just before the commission began applying more stringent regulatory measures against certain political entities.

Opposition Urged to Activate Contingency Plans Immediately

In light of these alleged threats, Amadi has advised Peter Obi and his supporters to look beyond the ADC and establish alternative routes to the ballot. He argued that waiting for the resolution of internal party primary disputes or vice presidential slots is a strategic error while the government actively works to eliminate the platform entirely. Amadi stressed that if a "Plan B" exists, it must be put into motion now to ensure that the opposition remains a viable factor in the upcoming electoral cycle.
