Ruling Party Rejects Claims of Presidential Interference

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru, has stated that President Bola Tinubu remains unfazed by the "contraption of electoral unviability" currently being promoted by the African Democratic Congress. During a press conference at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, Basiru dismissed allegations that the presidency is actively weakening opposition parties to impose a one-party state. He argued that the current leadership crisis within the opposition is a self-inflicted consequence of internal mismanagement and a lack of public trust, rather than the result of any external political maneuvering by the ruling administration.

Demand for Formal Deregistration

The ruling party has formally called upon the Independent National Electoral Commission to deregister the African Democratic Congress, citing a total lack of "electoral value." Basiru, joined by National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, mocked the opposition's claims of national relevance, pointing out that their performance at the polls has remained "abysmal and unconvincing." The APC highlighted the opposition’s failure to win a single seat during the recent Local Government Area Council elections in the Federal Capital Territory as proof that the coalition has been roundly rejected by the Nigerian electorate.

Critique of Attacks on Electoral Umpire

Senator Basiru strongly condemned the opposition's demand for the resignation of Professor Joash Amupitan and the entire board of National Commissioners. He characterized these calls as a "reckless" display of ignorance regarding the constitutional processes governing established institutions. The ruling party argued that the opposition should look toward judicial redress rather than attempting to "collapse the institution" of the electoral umpire. Basiru noted that even if the leadership were removed, the constitutional process for new appointments would remain unchanged, rendering the opposition’s demands both illogical and obstructive.
