The notice specifically targets residents in portions of Hillsborough, Mt Roskill, Royal Oak, and Three Kings. While the alert is widespread, Watercare clarified that not every street in these suburbs is affected; residents are encouraged to check the official red-line map to confirm their status.
The notice is expected to remain in place until at least midday Tuesday, pending the results of further laboratory testing.

Watercare advises that all tap water must be brought to a rolling boil before use. Bottled water is a recommended alternative. Residents should use treated water for the following activities:
