A Pre-Dawn Security Intervention
The Plateau State Police Command confirmed that a coordinated security response prevented further casualties during a violent early morning raid on April 6, 2026. At approximately 4:30 a.m., authorities received distress calls reporting heavy gunfire within Pwomol Village, located in the Heipang District of Barkin Ladi Local Government Area. In response, the Commissioner of Police mobilized a rapid deployment team consisting of the Divisional Police Officer, military units, and various other security agencies to confront the attackers.
Tactical Engagement and Casualties
Upon arrival at the scene, the joint security team engaged the armed group in a significant gun duel. According to SP Alfred Alabo, the Police Public Relations Officer, the superior firepower of the responding units forced the assailants to retreat into the dense, mountainous forests surrounding the village. Despite the successful repelling of the group, three residents were confirmed dead as a result of the initial ambush, while a fourth individual sustained serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment.
Apprehension of a Primary Suspect
Following the initial confrontation, security forces conducted a thorough clearance operation in the vicinity to secure the perimeter. During this search, operatives apprehended a male suspect identified only as Suleiman near the Redemption Camp area. According to police reports, the individual was discovered with visible blood stains on his person and was immediately taken into custody. Investigators are currently processing the suspect to determine his level of involvement in the fatal raid.
