Interference With Aerial Law Enforcement Operations
A targeted laser strike against a Washington State Patrol aircraft led to a ground level confrontation and arrest in Pierce County last Friday. At approximately 10:30 p.m., flight crews reported that a person on the ground was intentionally illuminating their cockpit with a green laser from a residential backyard in Parkland. At the time of the incident, the aircraft was providing critical overhead support for deputies conducting a coordinated street racing emphasis patrol. The persistent nature of the light strikes allowed flight technicians to pinpoint the exact location of the source, leading to a rapid dispatch of ground units to the residence.
Evasive Tactics and the Deployment of Medical Resources
Upon the arrival of Pierce County deputies, the suspect allegedly fled into a nearby home in an attempt to avoid contact with law enforcement. According to official reports from the Sheriff’s Office, the woman eventually exited the house but initiated a series of maneuvers designed to prevent her transport to jail. Authorities claim the woman attempted to feign various medical emergencies, prompting a response from local fire department personnel to evaluate her condition. After being medically cleared of any legitimate health issues on site, the suspect reportedly fell to the ground in a final effort to stall the booking process, necessitating a secondary evaluation at a local hospital.
Legal Arraignment and Pretrial Release Conditions
The 31 year old suspect appeared before Court Commissioner Barbara McInvaille on Monday afternoon for her formal arraignment at the Pierce County Superior Court. While she was charged with first degree unlawful discharge of a laser and obstructing a law enforcement officer, a plea of not guilty was entered on her behalf. Despite the serious nature of the felony charge, the court ordered the woman to be released on her own recognizance. Court records indicate that while she has no prior criminal convictions, she currently maintains active warrants out of the Fife Municipal Court, which may impact her future legal standing.
