Allegations Of Coordinated Political Sabotage

The Peter Obi Media Reach (POMR) has issued a formal statement claiming that a sophisticated plot is underway to prevent Peter Obi from appearing on the ballot for the January 2027 presidential election. Ibrahim Umar, speaking on behalf of the media office, asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has been actively working to destabilize Obi’s political standing since the conclusion of the 2023 polls. The office argues that the persistent internal crises within the Labour Party were intentionally engineered to leave Obi without a firm foundation for a future run.

Legislative And Judicial Maneuvers Questioned

According to the statement, the pressure against Obi’s candidacy intensified following his strategic alignment with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) coalition. The POMR points to recent amendments to the Electoral Act as "bizarre" legislative changes specifically designed to undermine the ADC and place Obi’s ambitions at risk. Furthermore, the media office criticized the timing of judicial rulings, alleging that the courts dismissed certain party factions only after Obi had formally distanced himself from the Labour Party leadership on December 31, 2025.

Concerns Over Electoral Commission Independence

A central tenet of the allegation involves the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The Obi camp claims the government has manipulated the commission to reinterpret specific Appeal Court rulings, resulting in the delisting of the ADC’s leadership. This move is seen by the POMR as a direct attempt to eliminate alternative platforms for major aspirants. The statement warns that such actions create an "illusion of choice" while effectively propping up surrogates to ensure the dominance of a single political entity.
