A Deadly Escalation Over Unpaid Funds

A routine demand for the repayment of a N25,000 debt turned into a homicide investigation in the Ifo local government area of Ogun State. Opeyemi Olaniyan, aged 37, reportedly arrived at a local bar on Saturday night to confront a debtor, Oriade Kehinde, regarding money owed since the previous year. According to police reports, the situation deteriorated rapidly when the suspect failed to receive an immediate response, leading to a violent outburst that ultimately claimed the life of a third party present at the scene.

The Fatal Altercation at Agbado Bar

Witness accounts and police statements indicate that the suspect became increasingly aggressive after his demands were not met. After breaking a bottle, Olaniyan allegedly threatened individuals within the premises and attempted to force his way into the bar. During the ensuing struggle to prevent his entrance, Ayomide Oyekunle was struck with the jagged remains of the bottle. The 27-year-old victim suffered severe lacerations to his hand and stomach, causing critical injuries that required immediate emergency medical intervention.

Medical Failure and Custodial Procedures

Following the attack, Oyekunle was rushed to Strong Tower Hospital in Giwa Oke Aro for urgent treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the victim succumbed to his injuries while receiving care. Law enforcement officials have since deposited the body at the Life Channel Morgue in Olambe, where an autopsy will be conducted to formally determine the cause of death. The suspect was apprehended shortly after the incident and remains in police custody as the investigation transitions into its next phase.
