Fatal Escalation During Afternoon Dispute

A March 6 homicide in north Charlotte has led to the arrest of 37 year old J.B. James Jones, who is now facing charges of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon. According to a police affidavit, the shooting occurred at approximately 3:54 p.m. in the vicinity of the Amore Store on Statesville Avenue. Law enforcement responders discovered the victim, Luis Fernando Hernandez, deceased behind a parked vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds.

Surveillance Footage Captures Critical Timeline

Charlotte Mecklenburg police reviewed digital security footage from the scene, which reportedly shows Jones arriving at the location in a white Ford F 150. The affidavit notes that Jones spent roughly 25 minutes interacting with various people in the area and spoke briefly with Hernandez. However, the situation deteriorated when Jones allegedly took issue with an unidentified third person, leading him to produce a handgun and navigate around parked cars before opening fire.

Witness Accounts Detail Chaotic Scene

The investigative records include testimony from several witnesses who were present at the time of the discharge. One individual reported that he and Hernandez had stopped behind the store when gunfire erupted, while another witness claimed to have seen Jones fleeing the area in a truck belonging to the mother of his child. Furthermore, a witness informed police that the suspect appeared to be under the influence of narcotics and had targeted an individual who "stepped up" to him during the argument.
