Proactive Traffic Enforcement Leads to Narcotics Discovery

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department initiated a targeted traffic stop Sunday evening that resulted in multiple felony charges for a local juvenile. While patrolling the intersection of Dorchester Road and South Allen Drive, officers observed a vehicle with window tint that appeared to exceed legal darkness limits. According to the police report, the driver made an abrupt turn and pulled into a nearby gas station in an apparent attempt to avoid contact as officers moved to catch up with the vehicle.

Detection of Drugs and Fentanyl Presumptive Positive Results

Upon approaching the vehicle and its four occupants, officers reported a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the cabin. During the subsequent investigation, police noticed a clear plastic bag protruding from the pocket of a 16 year old occupant. The bag contained approximately 5.1 grams of a green plant material. Field tests conducted on the substance yielded presumptive positive results for both THC and fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid often found as a dangerous additive in street level narcotics.

Recovery of Stolen Firearm During Safety Frisk

The situation intensified when officers conducted a safety frisk of the juvenile’s waistband. Police recovered a Glock .22 caliber handgun tucked into the suspect's clothing. A secondary records check through the National Crime Information Center revealed that the firearm had previously been reported stolen within the city of North Charleston. The recovery of the weapon added significant weapons charges to the juvenile's growing list of allegations.
