Custody Order Leads to Third Suspect Detention

The Metropolitan Police Department has expanded its list of suspects in a violent incident that took place nearly two months ago in Northwest D.C. On Wednesday, March 25, officers executed a District of Columbia Superior Court custody order to apprehend a 14 year old male from Southeast. This individual now faces a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon, specifically a firearm, marking a significant step in the ongoing investigation into the afternoon shooting that disrupted the Massachusetts Avenue corridor.

Initial Response Near the National Capital

The investigation began on the afternoon of Friday, February 6, when First District officers were called to the Unit block of Massachusetts Avenue Northeast. Upon arrival at approximately 4:12 p.m., authorities discovered a 15 year old male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Emergency medical services from D.C. Fire and EMS were dispatched to the scene, providing immediate care before transporting the conscious victim to a nearby hospital for treatment of injuries that were later determined to be non life threatening.

Collaborative Enforcement With Capitol Police

The proximity of the shooting to federal landmarks prompted an immediate response from the United States Capitol Police. These federal officers were instrumental in the initial phase of the case, successfully stopping two individuals near the offense location shortly after the shots were fired. The collaborative effort between local and federal agencies allowed for a swift initial sweep of the area, which was critical in identifying the primary actors involved in the daylight assault.
