Tactical Interdiction of Insurgent Logistics in Yusufari
The Nigerian Army has recorded a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against insurgency by dismantling a clandestine fuel supply network in Yobe State. During a night patrol conducted on March 24, 2024, troops operating under the HADIN KAI mandate successfully intercepted a logistics operation aimed at replenishing Boko Haram assets. This intervention, carried out by the 241 Battalion, underscores a shift in military strategy toward severing the lifeblood of terrorist groups by targeting their essential supply routes and civilian collaborators who facilitate their movement.
High Speed Pursuit and Seizure of Contraband
The operation was initiated when soldiers stationed at a Forward Operating Base in Jajimaji discovered two vehicles loading fuel at a station in the Yusuf Abah area. Upon spotting the military presence, the suspects attempted a high speed escape, leading to a brief but intense pursuit through the local government area. While one vehicle managed to evade capture, the troops successfully cornered a Volkswagen Golf, which was found to be modified for heavy transport. Inside the vehicle, investigators discovered seven large sacks containing approximately 539 litres of Premium Motor Spirit, a critical resource for insurgent mobility in the desert terrain.
Arrest of Key Suspects and Technical Collaborators
Among those apprehended during the raid were the driver, Mohammed Idi, and his assistant, Mero Umra, who were caught in the act of transporting the fuel. In an effort to root out the broader network, the military also took into custody the filling station manager, Hasan Liman, and a security guard, Jibril Audu, on suspicion of facilitating illegal sales to known terrorist entities. These arrests suggest that the military is increasingly focusing on the culpability of local commercial operators who provide cover for insurgent logistics, signaling that neutrality will no longer be an excuse for aiding non state actors.
