Investigation and Arrest in Pleasantville

The investigation into James Hadley began after family members discovered disturbing messages on a 13-year-old boy’s phone. Atlantic County Prosecutor William Reynolds stated that authorities took control of the device and communicated with Hadley through the app Zangi Private Messenger. This led to a sting operation on Friday in Pleasantville, where Hadley allegedly arrived at the victim's residence with $200 in cash. He was immediately met by the Pleasantville Police Department and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office and taken into custody.

Extensive History with Youth Organizations

Hadley has held numerous positions of authority that granted him significant access to children and young adults for decades. At the time of his arrest, he served as a dean at Ocean County College and an adjunct instructor at Kean University; both institutions have since suspended or terminated his employment. Furthermore, Hadley was a long-standing director with the Barnegat Basketball Club and previously served on the board of Barnegat Little League. He also volunteered as a mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Coastal & Northern New Jersey in 2019. These organizations are now reviewing historical records as a precautionary measure.
