Formation of a Dedicated Negotiation Committee

The All Progressives Congress caucus representing Bauchi State within the National Assembly has resolved to establish a specialized committee to oversee the potential entry of Governor Bala Mohammed into the party. This decision was reached during a high-stakes meeting in Abuja aimed at addressing the internal friction caused by the Governor’s rumored move from the Peoples Democratic Party. Acting secretary of the caucus, Dabo Ismail, confirmed that the committee will serve as the official representative body for the caucus in all future talks regarding executive-level defections.

Conditions for Admission and Stakeholder Engagement

According to Ismail, the primary objective of the newly formed group is to outline specific conditions and expectations that must be met if the Governor eventually joins the APC. The committee is tasked with meeting key stakeholders to ensure that the transition does not disrupt the existing party structure. Ismail described this move as a democratic mechanism designed to manage differing opinions among members while maintaining a united front ahead of future political cycles.

Criticism of National Leadership and Lack of Consultation

The Senator representing Bauchi North and chairman of the caucus, Sama’ila Dahuwa, voiced strong opposition to how the national leadership has handled the process thus far. Dahuwa characterized the failure of the central party organs to consult state-level stakeholders as unacceptable. He warned that attempting to force a decision of this magnitude on the local membership without proper engagement could lead to further instability, insisting that the national leadership must respect due process and local hierarchy.
