Emergency Response to Southeast Shooting Incident
Violence erupted in the Southeast quadrant of the District on Wednesday evening, prompting a rapid response from the Metropolitan Police Department. Seventh District officers arrived at the 2300 block of Pitts Place at approximately 7:45 p.m. following reports of active gunfire in the residential area. Upon their arrival, first responders discovered a male victim who was neither conscious nor breathing, exhibiting signs of severe trauma from apparent gunshot wounds. The immediate priority shifted to medical intervention, though the gravity of the injuries presented a significant challenge to the arriving units.
Life Saving Efforts Exhausted at the Scene
Personnel from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were dispatched to the location to provide advanced life support. Despite the immediate and rigorous lifesaving efforts performed by paramedics on the sidewalk of Pitts Place, the victim could not be revived. Authorities eventually ceased medical procedures, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting. The area was quickly cordoned off to preserve physical evidence, as the focus of the operation transitioned from a medical emergency to a formal criminal investigation.
Identification of the Deceased Victim
The Metropolitan Police Department has since confirmed the identity of the deceased as 24-year-old Ilijah Gregory. According to official records, Gregory was a resident of Northwest, D.C., raising questions regarding the circumstances that brought him to the Southeast neighborhood on the night of the incident. Detectives are currently tracing his final movements and communicating with his family to establish a clearer picture of his background. The identification marks the first major step in a complex homicide case that currently has no publicly named suspects.
