Federal Charges Filed in Law Enforcement Ambush

Federal prosecutors have charged two brothers from the District of Columbia with multiple violent felonies in connection with the shooting of a U.S. Park Police officer. Asheile Foster, 22, and Darren Foster, 21, appeared before a federal magistrate to face counts of assault with intent to kill while armed and possession of a firearm during a crime of violence. The charges stem from a March 23 incident that occurred shortly after one of the defendants had been released from police custody for a separate matter, prompting an immediate multi-agency investigation.

Surveillance Operation Ends in Targeted Gunfire

The shooting took place as a U.S. Park Police officer sat in an unmarked Tesla Model Y near 51st Street SE, performing surveillance on Asheile Foster. According to court documents, the defendant had recently departed a police facility where he had been retrieving personal property from an arrest the previous day. While the officer remained in the vehicle, two individuals approached and unleashed a volley of gunfire, striking the officer in the shoulder. The wounded officer managed to radio for emergency assistance, reporting that he had been hit while under fire.

Recovery of High-Powered Weaponry at the Scene

Ballistics investigators from the ATF and the Department of Forensic Sciences scoured the neighborhood following the attack, eventually recovering 32 shell casings from the immediate area. During a canvas of the perimeter, officers discovered a black backpack wedged into a fence containing a Diamondback DB-15 AR-style rifle. The weapon, which lacked a stock, was loaded with .300 blackout ammunition, a caliber often associated with increased stopping power. This discovery provided a critical link between the hardware used in the ambush and the suspects fleeing the vicinity.
