The Traffic Stop and K9 Intervention

On Saturday, February 28, 2026, deputies with the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office conducted a targeted traffic stop in the 1700 block of Roanoke Road in Daleville. During the roadside interaction with the vehicle's occupants, K9 Nuka was deployed to perform an exterior sniff of the automobile. The service dog provided a positive alert for the presence of illegal substances, granting deputies the legal cause to perform an exhaustive manual search of the vehicle's interior.

Narcotics Inventory and Distribution Evidence

The subsequent search yielded what authorities described as "significant" quantities of various high-priority narcotics. Investigators recovered over 223.5 grams of methamphetamine, 42 grams of cocaine, 33 grams of MDMA, and 30 grams of fentanyl. In addition to the raw narcotics, deputies discovered specialized packaging materials, scales, and other paraphernalia consistent with the illegal distribution of controlled substances rather than personal use.

Legal Charges and Suspect Information

The suspects have been identified as 57 year old Joseph Stinnett and 25 year old Zane Brizzi, both residents of Covington. Both men face a series of felony charges including possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, fentanyl, cocaine, and MDMA. Following their arrest, the pair was transported to the local jurisdictional holding facility pending their initial court appearances.
