Strategic Network Enhancements Driving Temporary Outages
Kenya Power and Lighting Company has issued a formal notice regarding scheduled system maintenance set to affect six counties on Thursday, April 2, 2026. According to the utility provider, these periodic interruptions are a procedural necessity under Rule 27 of the Electric Power Rules, which mandates regular infrastructure updates. The exercise is designed to facilitate the comprehensive upgrade of existing power lines, the integration of new customer connections, and the critical replacement of aging network components to ensure long term stability. Residents and commercial entities in the target zones have been urged to coordinate their activities to minimize productivity losses during the maintenance window.
Nairobi and Central Region Maintenance Schedules
The capital city and its surrounding metropolitan areas will see significant activity, with outages in Nairobi’s Thome and Pipeline areas scheduled from 9am to 5pm. In the Thome region, affected locations include parts of Mirema Drive and the United States International University-Africa, while the Pipeline sector will see interruptions near Kware Police and local educational centers. Simultaneously, Kiambu County will experience a similar eight hour blackout along Bob Harries Road and surrounding farms, including Maryhill Girls and various agricultural estates. These concentrated efforts in high density areas are part of a broader push to modernize the grid serving Kenya’s primary economic hubs.
Expansive Rural and Coastal Infrastructure Work
Beyond the metropolitan center, maintenance teams will be deployed to Nyeri and Mombasa to execute essential line repairs. In Nyeri, the schedule is divided between the Mweiga Blooms area and the Kamune sector, with work beginning as early as 8am to address industrial and agricultural connections. Mombasa’s coastal industrial zone, specifically Jomvu and Alidina, will also undergo maintenance from 9am to 5pm, affecting several manufacturing plants and gas processing facilities. These regional operations are critical for maintaining the heavy load requirements of Kenya’s manufacturing and export sectors, which rely on consistent voltage levels.
