Operational Adjustments Driven By Energy Costs

The Kenyan transport sector has faced a fresh wave of price volatility following a decisive move by Ena Coach to revise its fare structure. In a formal customer notification released on Tuesday, the long distance bus operator explained that the decision was a direct consequence of the latest fuel price caps established by the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority. Management indicated that an internal operational assessment was necessary to ensure the company could maintain its current standards of service delivery amidst rising overheads.

Revised Pricing For Major Transit Corridors

Passengers traveling between Nairobi and Nakuru are among the most impacted, with fares rising from KSh 1,600 to KSh 1,800. The adjustments extend to the coastal route, where travel from Nairobi to Mombasa is now set at KSh 2,000, while trips from Mombasa to upcountry destinations have reached KSh 3,000. These changes represent a significant shift for commuters who rely on the bus company for inter county connectivity, particularly those heading toward Western Kenya.

Impact On Regional And Short Distance Routes

The fare hike has also permeated through secondary routes, affecting travelers using the Narok corridor to reach upcountry destinations. Tickets for this specific path have been adjusted to KSh 1,700, reflecting a consistent increase of KSh 200 across various segments. Meanwhile, shorter regional connections, such as the trip from Kisii to Kisumu, have been pegged at KSh 700. According to the company, these specific increments were calculated to balance the increased cost of diesel against the purchasing power of their regular clientele.
