Voter Engagement Surges as Phase II of CVR Hits Week 10 Milestone

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released its week 10 update for the second phase of the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, titled "Completed Online and Physical Registration as of March 13." According to the commission, a total of 2,657,784 Nigerians have now successfully navigated the registration process. This phase has seen a notable balance between digital and traditional methods, with 1,563,169 registrants opting for online pre-registration and 1,094,615 completing the process through physical registration centers.

Jigawa and Lagos Lead State Rankings; Anambra Records Lowest Turnout

A geographical breakdown of the latest figures reveals significant regional variations in voter engagement. Jigawa State currently holds the highest number of completed registrations at 171,471, followed closely by Lagos with 154,565 and Kano with 136,073. Conversely, Anambra State recorded the lowest participation in this update, with only 21,836 completed registrations. INEC continues to monitor these trends as they prepare for upcoming electoral cycles, noting that these preliminary figures remain subject to a rigorous "clean-up" process using the Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS).

Demographic Breakdown: Women and Youth at the Forefront

The data underscores a strong commitment to civic participation among the younger generation and women. Female registrants currently lead the exercise, accounting for 1,508,858 (57%) of the total, while males represent 1,148,926 (43%). Age distribution data further reveals that youths between 18 and 34 years are the most active demographic, comprising 68.22% of the total registrants with over 1.8 million individuals. In terms of occupation, students form the largest block (24.11%), followed by members of the business community (20.33%).
