Commencement of the Claims and Objections Period
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially scheduled the commencement of the Claims and Objections exercise in Ondo State following the conclusion of the second phase of Continuous Voter Registration (CVR). In a statement released by Ogunseye Olayinka on behalf of Resident Electoral Commissioner Dr. Mutiu Agboke, the commission confirmed the exercise will run from Wednesday, April 29, to Tuesday, May 5, 2026. This window serves as a critical verification phase to ensure that the electoral rolls accurately reflect the eligible voting population.
Verification of Biodata and Correction of Errors
During the seven-day period, the Preliminary Register of Voters will be displayed daily from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at all 18 Local Government Area (LGA) offices across Ondo State. INEC explained that this phase is specifically designed for individuals who recently registered, applied for a transfer of voting location, or updated their personal information. It provides a final opportunity for these citizens to check for clerical errors or omissions in their biodata and request necessary corrections before the final register is printed.
Purging the Register of Ineligible Entries
A primary function of the exercise is to allow the public to scrutinize the list for ineligible entries. INEC has called on citizens to raise formal objections if they identify names that should not be on the register. These categories include:
