New Leadership at INEC Ondo State

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially confirmed the assumption of duty of Dr. Mutiu Olaleke Agboke as the new Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for Ondo State. The announcement was made on Monday in Akure via a statement from Adenike Tadese, the INEC Administrative Secretary in the state. Dr. Agboke takes over as the 21st REC in Ondo, succeeding Oluwatoyin Babalola, who has been reassigned to Osun State as part of the commission's ongoing administrative realignments.

A Veteran in Election Management

Dr. Agboke brings extensive experience in election administration to his new role. Originally from Abeokuta, Ogun State, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 and has built a career as a legal scholar and election management expert. His track record includes serving as a member of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) between 2012 and 2016. Furthermore, he has held REC positions in Oyo and Osun states, and previously served in Ondo, where he oversaw the logistics and execution of both the 2019 and 2023 General Elections.

Focus on Transparency and Integrity

The commission's statement emphasized Agboke’s reputation for professionalism, transparency, and integrity. His reappointment to Ondo is viewed as a strategic move to leverage his familiarization with the state's political landscape to ensure the delivery of credible and fair electoral processes. The commission expressed strong confidence that his expertise would help strengthen the integrity of the vote and maintain public trust in the electoral system as the state prepares for future cycles.
