A Strategic Bid for the Executive Mansion

The immediate past Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has formalized his intention to contest the 2027 Bauchi State governorship election. Following the acquisition of the All Progressives Congress expression of interest and nomination forms, Tuggar signaled his readiness to lead the state through a period of economic and social transition. The former diplomat, who paid the 50 million Naira fee for the forms, expressed a commitment to using his administrative experience to address the fundamental challenges facing the north eastern state.

Tackling Insecurity and Land Management

Central to Tuggar’s campaign is a comprehensive plan to secure the state and optimize its physical resources. He identified the management of Bauchi’s 46,000 square meters of land as a critical pillar of his proposed administration. According to the aspirant, his goal is to ensure that these vast territories are harnessed effectively to support both farmers and herders. He emphasized that proper land management is essential to preventing the concentration of resources in the hands of a few, which he believes contributes to the desperation and poverty currently affecting the region.

Poverty Alleviation Through Inclusive Agriculture

The former minister is advocating for a shift toward sustainable agricultural practices that empower subsistence workers. By focusing on how to manage and harness farmland, Tuggar intends to create a system where local producers can sustain themselves without fear of displacement. He argued that the current economic climate requires a deliberate strategy to lift citizens out of poverty, noting that the state’s agricultural potential remains its most viable path toward long term economic stability and self sufficiency.
