A Legacy of Academic and Technical Excellence

Born in Tombia Town, Rivers State, Engr. Dr. Eferebo Ibietela Sylvanus has built a career defined by rigorous academic pursuit and high-level technical application. After graduating with a Bachelor of Technology in Marine Engineering from Rivers State University in 2008, he continued his specialization with a Master’s degree in 2019 and a PhD in Naval Architecture and Shipbuilding in 2023. This deep academic foundation has enabled him to bridge the gap between theoretical naval design and the practical complexities of offshore operations in Nigeria's oil and gas industry.

Leading Innovation at Somatrix Marine Limited

With over two decades of experience, Sylvanus has transitioned from a senior mechanical engineer on major projects like the SEPLAT Liquid Treatment Facility to a prominent business leader. As the CEO and Managing Director of Somatrix Marine Limited, a COREN-registered firm, he oversees advanced engineering services including ship design and project management. Under his leadership, the company has integrated cutting-edge simulation technologies such as Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and Finite Element Analysis (FEA), expanding its operations to international markets like South Africa.

Pioneering Maritime Policy and Governance

Beyond his corporate success, Dr. Sylvanus is a central figure in the regulation and monitoring of engineering standards in Nigeria. A Fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, he previously served as the National Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Marine Engineers and Naval Architects. His influence extends into the legislative sphere, where he serves as the Principal Technical Consultant to the House Committee on Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring. In this capacity, he advises on policies designed to foster indigenous technical self-reliance and enhance local participation in maritime and offshore ventures.
