Immediate Threat: The Subtropical Low

Before Cyclone Vaianu reaches New Zealand waters, a subtropical low is expected to lash the far north. MetService has issued an Orange Heavy Rain Warning for Northland, effective for 18 hours starting at 10:00 PM on Monday.

Forecasted Impacts for Northland:

Rainfall Totals: 90mm to 120mm expected.

Peak Intensity: Up to 40mm/h during Tuesday morning thunderstorms.

Wind: Strong east to northeast winds approaching severe gale strength in exposed areas.
