Outcry Over Infrastructural Omission

The leadership and residents of the Polobubo (Tsekelewu) bloc communities in Warri North Local Government Area have formally protested their exclusion from the Delta State Government’s recently approved ₦400 billion infrastructure package. In a joint statement released on Monday, March 16, 2026, community leaders expressed profound disappointment that one of the state's most strategic oil-producing axes was overlooked. While acknowledging the government's broader efforts to modernize the state, the bloc argued that the omission undermines the principles of fairness and balanced development in regions that bear the brunt of industrial extraction.

A Strategic Economic Engine

Polobubo and its surrounding settlements are central to Delta State's economic health, hosting operations for global and local energy giants including Chevron, NPDC, Sahara Energy, and Conoil. According to the communities, the area is responsible for over 20% of the state’s total petroleum output. Leaders described the region as "the goose that lays the golden egg," highlighting the sharp contrast between the wealth generated from their ancestral lands and the "severe infrastructural deficits" that define their daily reality. They maintain that the lack of government presence is no longer tenable given their contribution to the national and state treasury.

Demands for Specific Road and Internal Networks

The protest specifically calls for the reinstatement and funding of critical transit projects that have languished or were bypassed in the current fiscal approvals. Primary among these is the Trans-Egbema Road, which is designed to link Ogbudugbudu and Ogbinbiri to Polobubo. Additionally, the communities are demanding the completion of the Polobubo internal road network, a project originally approved during the administration of former governor Ifeanyi Okowa but which has seen little progress. Residents argue that these roads are essential not just for convenience, but for basic economic survival and safety.
