Strategic Endorsement of Regional Development Agency

The Governor of Cross River State, Senator Bassey Otu, has formally recognized the Niger Delta Development Commission for its significant strides in regional infrastructure development. Speaking at a courtesy visit in Calabar, Governor Otu stated that the commission’s current project trajectory aligns closely with the federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He credited the visible improvements in the region to the policy direction of President Bola Tinubu, noting that the empowerment of the agency has allowed it to address long standing challenges that have historically hindered progress in the Niger Delta.

Legislative Oversight of Emergency Road Infrastructure

The governor’s commendation coincided with an oversight inspection by a joint delegation from the National Assembly. Led by Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong, Chairman of the Senate Committee on NDDC, and Hon. Erhiatake Ibori Suenu, Chairman of the House Committee, the lawmakers conducted a technical assessment of the Calabar Odukpani Akamkpa Ogoja road. This legislative intervention was designed to verify the quality and progress of emergency rehabilitation works that the state government had previously advocated for to support regional commerce.

Economic Significance of the Trans Regional Corridor

The rehabilitation project focuses on a strategic trans regional artery that connects the South South, South East, and North Central zones. Managing Director of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, emphasized that this corridor is essential for the movement of solid minerals, agricultural produce, and petroleum products. By restoring this route, the commission intends to boost cross regional connectivity and reduce the logistical costs currently facing traders and transporters. Senator Ekpenyong further noted that the road serves as a primary economic lifeline for the state’s industrial and agricultural output.
