Strategic Overhaul of Regional Procurement Systems
The Niger Delta Development Commission has accelerated a fundamental reform of its internal infrastructure by introducing a digital procurement framework designed to replace outdated manual operations. During a sensitisation summit held in Imo State, officials detailed a transition toward a more structured and accountable method of managing public contracts. According to Director of Procurement Chuks Osuji, this initiative is a vital measure to strip away the historical inefficiencies that have plagued the commission, replacing them with a streamlined workflow that prioritises speed and accuracy in regional development.
Eliminating Institutional Corruption and Human Bias
Central to this technological migration is the objective of curbing unethical practices such as nepotism and unauthorized human interference in the awarding of contracts. Chuks Osuji noted that the new digital platform is engineered to minimize human contact, thereby reducing the bottlenecks where corrupt activities often take root. By creating a digital trail for every transaction, the commission aims to foster a culture of transparency that aligns with global best practices, ensuring that project delivery is dictated by merit and value for money rather than personal affiliations.
Aligning with Presidential Directives for Governance
The shift from analogue to digital systems within the commission is part of a broader national mandate issued by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for all government agencies. Patrick Obayelu, Director of the NDDC Imo State Office, explained that the reform represents a significant shift in institutional mindset rather than just a simple software adoption. This directive forces a migration toward high tech service delivery across all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, ensuring that the federal government’s anti corruption stance is reflected in the day to day operations of regional bodies.
