Testimony and the Dramatic Courtroom Outburst
The hearing was focused on the tragic circumstances surrounding the death of a three year old boy who was allegedly subjected to extreme fasting and physical discipline as part of a "spiritual cleansing". As the witness described the final days of the child’s life and the role Kimberly Inez played in directing the group’s actions Inez stood up and yelled "Liar!" several times. The judge immediately called for a recess and ordered bailiffs to escort Inez to a holding cell to allow the court to regain order. This confrontation highlights the deep emotional and ideological rifts within the surviving members of the order many of whom are now cooperating with the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s Office.

Detectives also found journals and digital recordings of Inez delivering sermons that emphasized the need for physical suffering to achieve salvation. These materials are being used by the prosecution to establish a pattern of behavior that led to the fatal incident involving the three year old boy.
San Bernardino County officials have stated that the case is one of the most complex "cult related" investigations in the region’s history. The trial is expected to last several months as dozens of former members are called to testify about their experiences under Inez’s leadership. The 2026 judicial response to this case is seen as a critical test of how the state balances religious...
