A Theatrical Voyage Through the Singapore River

The centerpiece of this year's cultural programming is a groundbreaking hour-long performance titled A Bump Through Time, which invites audiences to experience history while in transit. Set on a working bumboat, the show utilizes a cast featuring a Customs officer and a cargo handler to weave a narrative of suspicious vessels and high-stakes trading auctions. According to festival organizers, this mobile stage provides a unique sensory perspective on how migration and maritime trade served as the foundational pillars of the nation’s socio-economic development.

Expanding the Scope of Cultural Storytelling

Acting Minister for Culture, Community and Youth David Neo inaugurated the festivities at the Asian Civilisations Museum, marking the start of a multi-week celebration that spans both land and sea. Festival director Qazim Karim emphasized that the maritime story is inseparable from the national identity, reflecting the lived experiences of communities that thrived along the shorelines. This thematic focus is brought to life through Port Of Dreams, a walk-through installation at Clifford Pier that utilizes the authentic stories of pioneers to illustrate the transformation of a bustling port into a permanent home for its citizens.

Visual Arts and Immersive Public Exhibitions

The festival's visual identity is further enhanced by HOMEGROUND @ ACM Green, an outdoor exhibition curated by local artist Hafizah Jainal. This installation serves as a gateway for visitors to explore the intricate links between maritime history and global migration patterns. Open daily throughout the festival, the space also transforms every Friday and Saturday into a hub for hands-on workshops and live performances, offering curated food experiences that reflect the diverse culinary heritage shaped by Singapore’s status as a crossroads of trade.
