Fatal Pushing Incident and Double Homicides

The weekend's violence extended into the early hours of Monday morning in River North. A 35 year old man died at Northwestern Memorial Hospital after being pushed down a flight of stairs in the 100 block of West Hubbard Street. Police state the victim was attempting to intervene in a fight when a 32 year old suspect, who is now in custody, allegedly pushed him. Shortly before this, a double homicide occurred in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Two 19 year old men were sitting in a parked vehicle in the 5000 block of South Justine Street when gunmen in a dark sedan opened fire, killing both.

Targeted Attacks in Austin and North Lawndale

On Sunday night at approximately 7:50 p.m., a 31 year old man was found with a fatal gunshot wound to the chest while sitting in a vehicle in the 4700 block of West Arthington Street in the Austin neighborhood. Earlier that morning, a 25 year old man was killed inside a home in the 2100 block of South Trumbull Avenue in North Lawndale. Authorities report the victim was shot three times in the chest following a verbal dispute with another individual.

Washington Heights Double Shooting

The violence also claimed the lives of two elderly women in the Washington Heights neighborhood. Late Saturday night, officers discovered 68 year old Phyllis Goolsby and 71 year old Tuanna Thomas in the 10400 block of South Peoria Street. Both women had suffered fatal gunshot wounds to the chest and were pronounced dead at the scene. This incident brought the weekend death toll to seven, as detectives continue to investigate motives and search for suspects in several of these unrelated cases.
