Personal Toll: Homes and Livelihoods Lost
The speed of the floodwaters caught many by surprise, with residents describing the surge as a "tsunami."
Berhampore Displacement: Tahni Daniels and Neal Jenkins are among those stripping their home to the frame. The flood destroyed Jenkins’ home hair salon a business six years in the making along with nearly all their children’s belongings.
Business Closures: Popular restaurant Parla is expected to be closed for months after 40cm of water flooded the premises. Other local staples, including the Island Bay Unichem pharmacy, are operating at reduced capacity after sustaining significant damage.
Community Support: The Wellington City Mission is currently supporting nearly 40 families with temporary accommodation and essential supplies.
