Accusations of Tactical Restlessness Within the Ruling Party

The National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress, Bolaji Abdullahi, has characterized the ruling All Progressives Congress as a party in a state of strategic panic. During a televised appearance on Politics Today, Abdullahi argued that despite the APC holding power in approximately 34 states and maintaining a dominant presence in the National Assembly, the party appears increasingly restless regarding the opposition. According to Abdullahi, this perceived instability is evidenced by the ruling party's continuous focus on the ADC during high level political discourse. He suggested that a party with such a significant majority should not be so preoccupied with the activities of a smaller rival.

Allegations of Sponsored Litigation and Institutional Pressure

A primary concern raised by the ADC spokesperson involves the sudden surge in legal challenges directed at his party. Abdullahi alleged that the APC is actively sponsoring court cases to destabilize the ADC's internal leadership and operational capacity. He pointed to the hiring of Senior Advocates of Nigeria by individuals who ostensibly lack the personal financial resources for such high level legal representation as a sign of external interference. These actions, according to Abdullahi, do not add up logically unless there is a well funded external entity instigating the litigation to keep the opposition embroiled in courtroom battles rather than campaign activities.

The Strategy of Internal Member Instigation

Beyond the courtroom, Abdullahi accused the ruling party of attempting to erode the ADC from within by inciting members against the party leadership. He claimed that the APC has been pushing a narrative that the ADC is comatose or politically irrelevant, while simultaneously working to recruit its base. This dual approach of public dismissal and private subversion is, in Abdullahi’s view, a clear indicator of the APC's underlying fear regarding the 2027 electoral cycle. By framing the opposition as failing, the ruling party seeks to create a self fulfilling prophecy of decline that discourages new affiliations and donor support.
