The Formal Endorsement of National Oversight
The political hierarchy within the Abia State Peoples Democratic Party has shifted its full support toward the Board of Trustees as the primary governing body of the party. Following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the Ibadan Convention, the state chapter views the BoT, led by Senator Adolphus Wabara, as the legitimate authority to fill the current leadership vacuum. This move is seen as a strategic alignment with the apex court's decision to dismantle previous executive structures that were found to be in defiance of subsisting judicial orders.
Dismissal of Expulsion Claims Against BoT Chairman
In a direct rebuttal to local factional claims, the Abia PDP Caretaker Committee clarified that Senator Adolphus Wabara remains a member in good standing. Chairman Ikpegbu Emeka-Yellow addressed rumors of Wabara’s expulsion, noting that the National Working Committee had previously disowned such actions and the courts had subsequently invalidated them. The state leadership emphasized that the reports were promoted by individuals lacking the legal authority to enforce such disciplinary measures, thereby rendering the claims untenable and irrelevant to the party's current operations.
Judicial Victory Over Internal Political Instability
The state chapter characterized the Supreme Court's recent judgment as a major victory against "political rascality" and unauthorized exercises of power. By upholding the suspension of former National Secretary Sam Anyanwu and other key officers, the court has reinforced the principle of party supremacy and the rule of law. Emeka-Yellow argued that the ruling successfully halted attempts by destabilizing elements to control the party through irregular conventions, effectively resetting the internal democratic process under the supervision of the Board of Trustees.
