A Consolidation Of European Media Operations
Ziff Davis, the parent company of IGN Entertainment, has formalized a new partnership with the European media group eMense to manage and grow the IGN France brand. This move is part of a broader international licensing expansion designed to streamline operations across key European territories. eMense, which already holds the licenses for IGN’s Benelux, Nordic, and German editions, will now integrate the French market into its regional portfolio. The agreement marks a shift from the previous management structure while ensuring that the brand remains a dominant force in the highly competitive French gaming and entertainment landscape.
Continuity In Editorial Leadership
Despite the change in licensing ownership, the editorial integrity of the site is set to remain stable. The existing team, which has operated the French edition since 2020, will transition to the new partnership under the continued guidance of Editor in Chief Erwan Lafleuriel. Lafleuriel characterized the move to eMense as an essential step for accelerating the site's value and building upon the foundation established over the last six years. By keeping the original creative staff intact, Ziff Davis and eMense are prioritizing the specialized local knowledge required to engage the specific nuances of the French fan culture.
Strategic Market Growth And Audience Reach
The addition of the French edition significantly boosts the total reach of eMense, bringing its multi platform audience across four IGN brands to approximately 16 million users. On a global scale, IGN’s footprint now encompasses 30 international editions serving over 100 countries, with a total reach of 366 million users according to Google Analytics. Adam Doree, Senior Vice President of Global Partners at Ziff Davis, emphasized that the European markets require a thoughtful local strategy to successfully navigate the intersection of audience engagement and advertiser needs, citing eMense’s proven track record as the reason for the expanded deal.
